Three ways
whānau qualify.

Not sure if you fit? Apply anyway. We review every form personally and there's a good chance we can sort something for you.

Not quite a match? We've got other options that might suit. Apply anyway and we'll have a kōrero and work out what fits your circumstances best.

01
Through a school or kura
A child enrolled at a school or kura from Dunedin south that meets the EQI (Equity Index) criteria, paired with a parent or caregiver with a Community Services Card, a SuperGold Card, or on a benefit. See schools list →
02
Kāinga Ora & community housing
Whānau in Kāinga Ora homes or social/community housing across the South Island may qualify based on tenancy.
03
Hardship exception
Going through a tough patch and don't fit the categories above? Have a kōrero with us. There's a hardship pathway for whānau who genuinely need it.
About documentation
We believe you. The documentation we ask for (Community Services Card, benefit letter, tenancy confirmation, school enrollment, etc.) isn't about trust—it's because Chorus may audit us to ensure the Equity Fibre programme is running properly. We only collect what they require. Having trouble getting documents? Tell us on the form and we'll work it out together.
About the address checker
Our checker just confirms two technical things with the network: there's a fibre line (ONT) at your home, and no-one has had active internet there for at least a month. Just moved in? The 1-month rule doesn't apply, just tell us on the form. The criteria above are checked separately.

If your child's school is on this list and you hold a Community Services Card or SuperGold Card, or are on a benefit, you qualify.

Just two technical things with the network: that your home has a fibre line (an ONT) already installed, and that no-one in the household has had an active internet plan at the address for at least a month. It doesn't check the qualifying criteria, that happens through the application form.
Whānau Link is for households getting reconnected, not a way for everyone to swap to a cheaper plan. The 1-month inactive rule is how we make sure we're reaching those who genuinely need a hand.
If you've moved into a new place in the last month and haven't had internet there yourself, you're sweet, even if the previous tenant did. The address checker might still flag it (it can't tell who lives there), but tell us on the application form and we'll sort it out.
Don't take it as the final word. Apply anyway, we'll work it out.
100 Mbps down, 20 Mbps up. That's plenty for school work, streaming for the whole whānau, video calls, and gaming all at the same time. It's real Chorus fibre, not slow rural copper.
Yep. $7 a week, that's $1 a day, for unlimited 100/20 fibre, prepaid. Prefer to pay monthly? $28 a month is still an option. Either way you pay before you use it, so no contract, no debt traps, no surprise bills. The router is included with your plan.
Whānau Link is a Prodigi initiative that started in Southland and now covers most of the South Island. Wherever you are, we're working with local schools, kura, Kāinga Ora, and community partners who know the place and the people. Pop your address in the checker to see if we can reach you.
The $7 a week price is only possible because Equity Fibre is a Chorus programme, so it's only available where Chorus owns the fibre. Christchurch and some surrounding towns are on the Enable network instead, so we can't offer Whānau Link there. If the address checker says no and you're in an Enable area, that's why.

Whānau Link is a Prodigi initiative delivered over the nationwide Chorus fibre network.

Prodigi is 100% Southland owned and operated, and Chorus is the team behind the fibre lines connecting homes, schools and businesses across New Zealand.

Together, we're helping more whānau get connected through Equity Fibre 100; a low-cost fibre plan created by Chorus to make fast, reliable internet more affordable for eligible homes.

We 100% believe you. The documentation we ask for—like your Community Services Card, benefit letter, tenancy confirmation, or school enrollment—isn't about checking up on you.

Chorus (who owns the fibre network) requires us to keep records because they may audit the programme to make sure it's being run properly. It's paperwork for the paperwork people, not a trust thing.

We only collect what Chorus requires and keep it secure. If you're unsure what you need or have trouble getting documents, just let us know on the form and we'll work it out together.

You'll be sent through to our application form to give us a few details. From there, we'll be in touch within two business days, send out the router, talk you through plug-in, and you're online. Most homes are up within a week.
